Good Personality Traits

Hey, it's Manly.  I wanted to take a few mintues to write one of these here bloggy things.  It's not very common for me to write one.  The reasons why I don't write for the site are many and varied, but most especially it's because of one of my great personality traits.  One that is very near and dear to me, that I won't change no matter how much you or my wife beg.  "What trait is that?", I hear you asking in my head.   Well, I'm glad you asked, disembodied voice....

It's LAZINESS.  Let me sing a song of the joys and benefits of laziness.  While many believe this trait to be negative, allow me to shed some light on the positive sides of el flojo (that's Spanish for lazy).

You see, laziness keeps you out of trouble.  You're not causing problems in society when you're lazy.  Lazy people don't commit crimes, generally, because lazy people don't want to expend that much energy.  Stealing cars?  Nope.  Robbing gas stations?  Not likely.  Hell, you're probably not spray painting penises on the side of A. Randy Feller's garage, either.

Laziness also keeps you from performing "civic duty".  You see, the lazy person is not inclined to vote.  And since the lazy person doesn't vote, he doesn't get called for jury duty.  The lazy person has very little interaction with the State, now that I think about it.  I guess the only time a lazy person would have to deal with an agent of the government, outside of the health department inspectors stopping by to tell you to clean up your property, would be license plate renewal time, but even THAT is done online and through the mail if you don't wait until the last day.

Now, to be fair, laziness can cause problems at work.  It's still possible to be lazy at work, but you have to be creative about it.  There are times of the day when loafing and goofing off are acceptable.  For instance, in an office job, you have a lot of down time at the beginning and end of the day.  So take an hour or two at the start of the day to check email, read news stories online, write a blog update, and chat with friends on IM.  You can call it "research".  By then it's lunch time, so take your regular 2 hour lunch break.  When you come back, it's time for some real work.  So knock that out as best as you can, then take the last 2 hours or so of the day to goof off online.  You can call this "preparing for tomorrow".  Eventually, someone will find out, and you may get reprimanded, but that's the price you have to pay to lead the easy life.

Frankly, I think this is a good argument for laziness.  But I'm too damed lazy to have anyone check it or refute it.
